Tiara Yap (CS’17) is a video content strategist at SGAG, a Singaporean social media website and news media company. Yap joined the company in 2018 and is proud to be a part of the SGAG family as it grows in popularity — it recently hit 1 million likes on Facebook.
The 26-year-old wears many hats in her job — she helps to contribute ideas for their videos, writes scripts, acts and occasionally directs as well.
Her time in WKWSCI has helped to prepare her for the various tasks that she has had to undertake at SGAG, shared Tiara. Despite most of her work now requiring her to create content that leans towards a more light-hearted and comedic tone, Tiara took on mostly journalism and documentary modules in WKWSCI which are considered to be more serious and formal in nature.
“And even though I did more documentary and journalism related broadcast modules as compared to narrative ones, it wasn’t that hard to make the switch,” she said.
One of the modules she took, Acting and Directing for TV and Film, has been particularly beneficial for her. It allowed her to be familiar with what goes on in a video production team, and gain more insights into what goes on during pre-production and post-production.
Currently, Tiara is hard at work on a new web series, titled “Amateur Professionals” which is an SGAG original series that gives viewers a peek into the lives of six individuals working in an advertising agency, and she looks forward to producing more creative works for the public to enjoy.
