In 2011, Joy Tan (CS’04) founded The Style Atelier, a boutique agency that provides beauty services and training in professional grooming, etiquette and communication skills.
As Tan has loved art, cinema and fashion since young, her passion for aesthetics inspired her to commit to building a career as a “style architect.”
Located at Club Street, the company now trains professionals from a wide range of clientele ranging from Chanel to the Singapore Academy of Teachers and LinkedIn.
On a typical work day, she meets with corporate clients or visits studios and filming locations to give her clients makeovers and provide beauty consultations.
As the first appointed Max Factor Singapore Makeup Expert from 2017 to 2018, she helped to conceptualise creative looks and ideas for the cosmetics brand.
Tan said her time in the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information helped her explore her creativity.
During her days as a student in WKWSCI, Tan specialised in Electronic Broadcast and Media. She also received a Media Development Authority Book Prize for her Final Year Project, a short film about a dysfunctional family.
Prior to starting The Style Atelier, Tan was a lecturer at Singapore Polytechnic’s School of Communication, Arts and Social Sciences from 2009 to 2011.
