During his professional internship at Burson-Marsteller in his third year at the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, Danny Tan (CS’08) “fell in love with the challenging, dynamic nature” of public relations.
“I couldn’t have known at the time, but those six months would come to define my choice of career for the next decade,” said the 34-year-old.
Tan recently became the Vice-President of Ketchum Singapore in March 2017, and has been in the public relations industry ever since he graduated from WKWSCI in 2008. Before Ketchum, Tan worked at MSLGROUP.
Tan shared that the public relations industry is evolving at an unprecedented pace, making it “virtually unrecognizable” from the time he started his career in the field.
Tan’s fondest memory of his time in WKWSCI dates back to his PR-related Final Year Project (FYP). He and his team collaborated with Asia-Pacific Breweries to run an anti-binge drinking campaign, educating young Singaporeans about the benefits of drinking in moderation. The campaign was later adopted by the client and ran for several years after.
Tan said, “I remember how proud we all felt the night we launched the campaign.”
